About Toulouse
Toulouse is a city in southwest France on the banks of the Garonne River, half-way between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. As you wonder around its beautiful maze of streets, you might hear locals referring to it as Tolosa, which is the Occitan version of the French name.
The city has approximately 1 120 000 inhabitants and is fast growing, so if you wanted to visit some small sleepy town in the south of France, you’re not quite on target. The metropolitan area of “little” Toulouse is the fifth-largest in France and the fastest growing in Europe.
In addition to the many things to be seen and done by tourists during their visit here, Toulouse is also famous for being the capital of French aeronautics and it also hosts the largest space center in Europe – the CNES’s Centre Spatial Toulouse. But that’s not exactly why you’re going to have a good time here; despite its dynamic character, Toulouse has largely preserved a quaint, relaxed atmosphere.
